This tea comes from Kagoshima Prefecture, a region that has become a leader in organic cultivation, and Kirishima’s farmers were among the first in Japan to prioritize the new wave of natural growing techniques, biodiversity, and soil health. The result is a tea that not only tastes pure, but grows in harmony with its environment. Grown in one of Japan’s southernmost and most dynamic tea regions, Wave carries the mark of its volcanic soil and misty mountain climate.


Origins

Kirishima sits at the base of Mt. Sakurajima, an active volcano whose mineral-rich ash infuses the soil. Though Kagoshima’s tea history stretches back centuries, its modern rise began in the late 20th century, when farmers combined traditional cultivation with innovation to improve both quality and scale. Today, Kagoshima produces more than a quarter of Japan’s green tea, and Kirishima’s matcha is recognized for its clarity, freshness, and clean organic profile.

Flavor Notes

Almond skin, fresh greens. Smooth and light, with natural sweetness, low bitterness, and a silky froth. This tea is made from Saemidori, Okumidori, Sayamakaori cultivars.
